2012 Golden Globe Awards

With much anticipated mischief from Ricky Gervais who is again hosting this year's Golden Globe Awards, I actually thought he was toned down. It is all relative.

"Last year, our next presenter won both the Golden Globe and the Oscar for her work in Black Swan. This year, she took some time out to have a baby. Consequently, she’s been nominated for nothing. Really pathetic. But she learned that valuable lesson you all already knew - never put family first. Please welcome the very foolish Natalie Portman."

"She’s always vogue, she’s a material girl and she’s just like a virgin.", followed by clearing of the throat for comic effect.

"If I'm still just like a virgin, Ricky, then why don't you come over here and do something about it? She then mischievously added, "I haven't kissed a girl in a few years ... on TV."

Madonna wins Best Original Song - Motion Picture

As a long-time fan of Elton John, I was puzzled by Elton's stone-face or even a hint of grumpiness every time the camera was on him. I later found out after the awards show that his camp is livid over Madonna winning the award for Best Original Song - Motion Picture. Elton does not have to stoop to that. He has had enough success and will continue to have success. He will go down in history as one of the greatest composers of this period in pop music.
