Texas Holdem

A few years ago, I became very interested in Texas Holdem, playing it in the physical world (i.e. not online) and enjoying the physical social interaction. As with so many things, I wanted to get deeper into the strategies and become a much better Texas Holdem player. I read many books written by the professionals whose presence is displayed on many TV showings of Texas Holdem tournaments. It was becoming rather addictive at a certain point, and I did not even play online!

I wrote a software program for the Windows PC platform to allow me to practice playing Texas Holdem. The intention of that program was to allow me to learn and explore strategies. I had to implement decent machine-players to serve as opponents. These machine-players are not overly sophisticated and they do not consider patterns, styles and strategies of opponents, so a human player should be able to beat the machine-players.

Here are screen shots of the program windows. Click to see an enlarged view. If there is sufficient interest, I may consider cleaning up the personal tool and distributing it for others to use. If your traffic isn’t growing month after month, does it mean you’re doing something wrong? Most likely you aren’t doing enough things right. Again, making mistakes is not the issue. Missing opportunities is. - Steve Pavlina
